Halogen Ventures is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Halogen Fellowship in Venture Capital sponsored by Amazon Web Services, Silicon Valley Bank, and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips! The Halogen Fellowship is focused on gender dynamics and addresses the lack of equity, diversity and funding in venture capital.
The Halogen Fellowship in Venture Capital aims to train exceptional undergraduate students in venture capital and to create more opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to become investors. Halogen started this fellowship last summer when many college students had their summer jobs and full-time jobs revoked during COVID. As an apprentice-based business, venture has traditionally been a tough industry to crack into. This summer is a chance to give more young people that entry-level experience to kick off exceptional careers in venture capital and the world of technology startups.
The program includes introductory coursework on all aspects of venture capital including guest lectures ranging from Debt Financing to Term Sheets presented by key figures at AWS, SVB and Manatt. Fellows remotely shadow Halogen team members to get day-in-the-life experience in venture. Each fellow is responsible for identifying a key consumer trend and related investment opportunities, as well as producing an independent research study on behalf of a Halogen portfolio company.
Ten remarkable undergraduates have been selected from across the country for the virtual fellowship, from Yale and Cornell to UCLA and Stanford and beyond. The students have interests ranging from e-commerce to AR/VR and sustainability to future of work. This summer will give the fellows the chance to apply their experience and interest to early-stage investing. The fellowship is managed by two MBA fellows, Imani Parker-Fong of Stanford and Maxwell Fredkin of Haas.
With the Halogen Fellowship in Venture Capital, GP Jesse Draper and her team are expanding their mandate to support the next generation of not just entrepreneurs, but investors as well.

Imani Parker-Fong
Imani Parker-Fong is an incoming MBA student at Stanford Graduate School of Business. She is passionate about leveling the playing field for underrepresented founders. Her work experience includes Strategy Consultant at Accenture and supporting high-growth “Disruptive” companies with their growth marketing strategies at Facebook. She hopes to use these experiences to enable her to invest in the next billion-dollar companies founded by women and Black / LatinX founders. Imani is originally from Stockton, California and in her free time, she enjoys exercising, travel, and golf.
Maxwell Fredkin
Maxwell Fredkin is a bay area native who is currently an MBA candidate at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. Prior to business school, Max was an account executive for Johnson and Johnson Medical Devices, where he initiated several contract conversions at major hospitals in San Francisco. Max also has an extensive research background in cancer and translational medicine at UCSF as well as Berkeley. Immediately after his undergraduate tenure at UC Berkeley, Max spent time in brand strategy and sales development. We are very excited to have Max’s biomedical and business development skills to support our portfolio companies in addition to helping us analyze future investments.
Nick Dahl
Nick Dahl graduated from Yale University in 2021 with a degree in B.S. in Statistics and Data Science. He is currently a summer analyst at Analysis group and is a Data Consultant at Carbon Containment Lab. He was previously the Head of Venture Opportunities at Leda Health which aims to transform existing systems of sexual assault prevention, care, and justice to better serve survivors and the communities in which they live.
Claire Jacobs
Claire Jacobs will graduate from the University of San Francisco in the Fall of 2021. She is an incoming Venture Fellow at Commerce Ventures where she developed and executed a content marketing playbook and focused on the intersection of women and fintech. She was previously a researcher at 2Bridge Communications and Product Marketing Intern at Seknd.
Rhoshini Raghuraman
Rhoshini Raghuraman is a rising sophomore at New York University who is majoring in Finance and Biology. She is a previous intern at Phone2Action, Inc where she worked with a team to drive the adoption of new user-id tracking systems for clients using Google Analytics, AWS, and Mixpanel. She was also a Chief Technology Engineering Fellow where she created VR civic technology campaigns for grassroots advocacy.
Omari Caldwell
Omari Caldwell is a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans. He has demonstrated an interest in public service through his work as a Communications Intern for the New Jersey governor and as an intern with the New Orleans Mayor’s office where he allocated $1million to organizations working to reform the New Orleans community. Throughout his time at Loyola University, he was a member of the Student Government Association and was a member of the Emerging Leaders Program. He spent almost a year in Spain and Ecuador where he studied Political Science and International Relations.
Cameron Sullivan
Cameron Sullivan is a rising junior at Tufts University, pursuing a degree in Economics. On-campus he is an Analyst in Training for the Tufts Financial Group, a participant in SEO Edge, and an MLT Career Prep Fellow. He had a financial internship with Cabot Properties and is excited to learn about Venture Capital this summer.
Clarissa Barquist
Clarissa Barquist is pursuing a B.A. in International Relations and Economics at Stanford University. Most recently, she interned at E. Ventures as an Analyst, where she identified mobile technology companies for investment. Before that, she worked for the Global Sub-National Climate Fund, Creative Circle, Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, and Seventh Generation. In addition to her internship experience, she is heavily involved on campus as a student teacher, a leader of the Farmlink Project, and President of her sorority. She is a Yale Young Global Scholar and has won the Smith College Book Award.
Melissa Li
Melissa Li is an Economics and Psychology double-major at Harvard University. She has worked at Harvard Undergraduate Capital Partners as a Sourcing Associate, Connections & Founders Network Manager, and a Diligence Analyst. She has also interned with Airwallex, Patenpal, and Genesis Capital. She is the Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Harvard Ventures and is passionate about Halogen Venture’s mission to promote female leadership.
Caroline Roche
Caroline Roche is a rising senior at UCLA, where she is studying Political Science and Economics. She is involved in Clean Consulting at UCLA, the UCLA Tough to Tame Magazine, Bruin Women in Business, and the Women’s Affinity Group. She has interned at Outset Medical, DoStuff, and Helix RE. She is planning to pursue a career as a healthcare investor.
Mia Krishnamurthy
Mia Krishnamurthy is a student-athlete at Cornell University, where she studies Sociology, Business, and Inequality. She has been a Venture Fellow at Ripple Ventures, an analyst at Citi Bank, and is currently running her own company, Nova Apparel NYC. She is involved in greek life, Cornell Angel Partners, and advocates for women of color in Cornell Athletics. She has a strong interest in Venture Capital and already has industry experience.
Kate Yarbrough
Kate is a UNC rising Junior, where she is studying business, advertising, and entrepreneurship. She has previous experience in venture: as a founding member of the student-led fund on campus, an intern with The Helm in New York City, and an internship this summer at RTP Global. She has a love of the latest brands, especially Halogen port cos, interning with Sakara Life, Dannijo, and various brands through PR and Influencer Marketing agencies.
